"Great thoughts speak only to the thoughtful mind, but great actions speak to all mankind". Creation myths were important to the cultures that created them because they explained the great actions that show how the world started and where the people came from. These are the big questions of life.

Themes of water, gods and nothingness are at the center of many creation myths. This is unusual because even though their ways of life and belief are so different, cultures in very different places created myths that are very similar to each other.

An example of this is that in many creation myths water is very important. In the Mayan Myth the gods washed away the people to create new ones. Another example is in the Egyptian Myth in which the gods' tears became people.

In the beginning of many myths there were gods. For example in the Chinese myth there is Phan Ku, the god that created life. Another example is in the Babylonian Myth in which there is Tiamat, the goddess of ocean. This shows that in many cultures, people share the same beliefs.

A similar element in many myths is the explanation of how the universe changed from when there was nothing and then there was something which became the beginning of life. For example in the Phan Ku myth there is nothing except the giant egg containing all the forces of yin and yang, and then there is something because Phan Ku the dragon breaks the egg and creates life.

Another example is in the Egyptian myth in which the nothingness is called Nu which is the chaos which existed before time. As we can see, many elements in myth started from nothingness, and then the world was created and became something through the actions of the gods. These beliefs are similar even though the places where they came from are very far away from each other.

Creation myths explain the powerful actions that created the world and people in it. "Great thoughts speak only to the thoughtful mind, but great actions speak to all mankind".

What's In a Name

Whats In A Name?

James Vernon

1. My name is James, and it has an interesting story behind it. My name is Hebrew in origin but I don't think my parents knew that when they named me. James is a Biblical name. My name is mainly used in English and Hebrew speaking countries. My Surname is Vernon. Its origin is Old French. It is more commonly used as a boy’s name.

2. My parents named me after my great, great, great grandfather. They also named me James because they just liked the name. Both my brother and I have Biblical names. My brother’s name is Paul like the Paul in the bible. My parents are very Christian so that is why our names come from figures in the bible.

3. I think my name has a number of advantages: there are many great people named James, it is a common name like birds or sky, it is easy to remember, and it is easy to say. I do not know anything inconvenient about my name, except that some people want to call me Jim or Jimmy. I prefer James.

4. I like my first name because when I researched facts about it, l learned that the name James means to be humble, caring, enthusiastic, athletic and responsible. I then realized that I just described myself. My name shows who I really am both on the inside and the outside. All the facts that I have researched about my name actually do represent me. I enjoy my name and hope others will too.

5. I would not want to change my name because it would hurt my parents' feeling to do so. Also, I do not want to change my name because I really like the name. If I changed my name then I would be known as someone else. Even if people beg me I am not going to change my name because I just want to be known as James.

6. James is also a very common name of US presidents. Here is a list of some former American presidents named James: James Monroe, James Buchanan, James Madison, James Carter, James Garfield and James K Polk.

7. A good name shows who you really are. I think I have a good name because It suits my personality and shows who I really am.

8.

This is picture that I wish

was never taken.

This is my most treasured item.

This is what first comes to my mind.

This shows the journey of my families generation from me and my brother to my dad then on to my grandfather.

This picture taught me something that I will never forget, that family is very important.

My Bag

The ten items that I chose for my bag were: a basketball, books, a picture of my family, a picture with my friends, my phone, my favorite Lego pieces, a picture of my sax, a PS3 video game, the cross and the American flag.

1. I chose the basketball because it is my favorite sport. I enjoy playing this sport with my friends. The reason is that we all get to have fun. The best part of basketball for me is learning new moves. I think that the more moves you know the better the player you are going to be. I hope that someday I will be the greatest basketball player that I can be.

2. I chose books because I enjoy reading. When I read a book I feel like I am unaware of what is happening around me. This is because I am so concentrated on the book. My favorite type of book is an adventure book. My parents have always told me that the more you read the better writer you will be.

3. I chose to put a picture of me with my family because they are the most important people in my life. Without them I would not even be here. I have had many adventures with my family includnig some that I will never forget. Even thought we sometimes disagree, I love my family and always will.

4. I chose the cross to show that I am a Christian. This item symbolizes that Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins. A lot of other people around the world believe in other types of religions. I think everyone needs to have faith in God.

5. I chose the American Flag because I am from the United States. The 50 stars represent the 50 States while the lines represent the 13 original colonies (the first states) of America. America is one of the largest countries in the world after Russia.

6. I chose to put a picture of my friends and me because they have and always will be there for me. My friends are the people that I will always remember in my heart. This picture was taken at my old house before we moved on the 20th of August. Without friends the world can be a lonely place.

7. I chose a video game to include as well. I chose this because after I am finished my homework, I often have free time, and when I do, I like to play video games. I also do other stuff during my free time such as sports and work to help around the house.

8. I chose to put my phone in this project because it is one way for me to communicate. When I forget something or want to talk to someone, I usually use my phone. This was my second phone in Malaysia because I lost my first one.

9. I chose to put a picture of me playing my saxophone because I enjoy playing an instrument. Even though I sometimes get frustrated because I don’t know the notes well enough, I still enjoy it. I think that learning to play an instrument is as hard as learning a new language.

10. I put a Lego ship that I built because I enjoy designing and building using Lego. Sometimes it takes what feels like forever to find the right pieces but sooner or later I will find the one I am looking for. Another reason I chose this is because I want to improve my creativity. I always come up with new ideas that I try to then create in Lego, or sometimes in drawings.
