In 1776 in The Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson wrote, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." If I could create a new world better than the one we live in today, there are many qualities that I would hope to have. This new world would be free, peaceful and sustainable, but the most important characteristic that I would hope for would be equality.
Equality means equal treatment for everyone in a way that people will feel that their treatment is fair. This is important because people want to be treated fairly. If people aren't treated equally and fairly, then they will feel sad and will not be happy. They will feel angry and frustrated with the people in power who make the rules and laws. People who are treated equally in my new world will feel that the rules of this new society are just and fair. People who are treated equally should be treated the same way as everyone els no matter if they have different religion, they are a different color, you are rich or poor you should still be treated the same.
Equality also means having equal rights for everyone. This is also very important because everyone wants to have the same rights as others do. If people don't have the same rights as others, then they will feel angry toward the people with the rights that they don't have. This will create differences among groups in the new world that will lead to conflict. If someone is different most people would treat them differently because of their race or religion. People should be allowed to do the same thing as others no matter who they are, what they do or what they believe in.
Equality also means having equal opportunity for everyone. This is important so that everyone gets to have the same opportunity as everyone else no matter who you are or where you come from. Without equal opportunity, people will feel excluded. If people feel excluded, they will be frustrated and unhappy with their situation. This, too, can cause conflict. People should have the opportunity to do the same things as other's even if they are different even if they want to try something new such as a new career or a new job.
My new world would have many qualities, but equality is the most important because equal rights, equal treatment and equal opportunity can help prevent conflict between people. When Thomas Jefferson wrote, “All men are created equal”, he did not mean that everyone is the same. He meant that all men should have equal rights and opportunities, and they should be treated equally no matter who they are. In my new world equality will help prevent conflict.
